About Gili Meno

Gili Meno is the smallest and least developed of the three islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, Gili Air), and certainly the most in-tune with a desert island ethic. The beaches are much nicer than you will find on Gili Trawangan and Gili Air.

A coastal path leads all the way around the island, and can be covered at a very leisurely pace in 90 minutes. Most of the tourist facilities, including the boat arrival and departure point, are on the southern part of the east coast.

There is a lake on the western side of the middle of the island. This is sometimes quite full, and at others very dry. It is though always very saline.

While it is the least developed, it still attracts a regular crowd and is especially popular with families attracted by the fairly safe waters and low country vibe. Not too much party. This is like anti-Trawangan.

Gili Meno is also home to a dilapidated bird park which by rights should either be renovated or shut down. The birds that are left, apparently from a former glory day, are kept in a pretty deplorable state. It’s sad to see something that in its prime would have been a worthwhile attraction but is now in such a sorry state.

What To Do

  • Walking
Exploring the beachside by walk is doable. Take a walk slowly for about 90 minutes. Would be better in the early morning to see the sunrise, or afternoon to see the sunset.
  • Diving
There are numbers of licensed diving operators in Gili Meno:

    1. Blue Marlin Dive
    2. Divine Divers
    3. Gili Meno Divers
  • Snorkeling
You can rent snorkel equipment to the dive shops or local providers.

Unfortunately there is no ATM in Gli Meno. The nearest ATM is in Gili Air or Gili Trawangan. Cash can be obtained by credit card advance at Blue Marlin Dive with bit higher commission (about 7%). It is always best to bring enough cash at Gili Meno, though there will be not much things to buy.
