Indonesian Tourism Innovation: Bali–Banyuwangi Seaplane Service Set to Launch

Indonesian tourism marks another innovation with the introduction of a seaplane or amphibian aircraft service, ready to connect Bali and Banyuwangi. This service will be operated by AMAN Air, which will make it easier for tourists to explore the beauty of two exotic destinations at the eastern tip of Java Island and Bali. With the concept of flying from the sea, the seaplane offers a new experience that blends aerial adventure with the stunning panorama of the Indonesian ocean.

The plan to open the seaplane route between Bali and Banyuwangi is increasingly close to becoming a reality. Aman Air has announced its interest in serving these flights using a Twin Otter aircraft with a capacity of approximately 16 to 18 passengers. The route is designed to connect Benoa Harbour in Bali with Pang Pang Bay in Banyuwangi, and is targeted to start operations in early to mid-2026.

This new route is expected to be a significant breakthrough in the development of inter-island tourism, especially in supporting the growth of prime destinations in the East Java and Bali region. Tourists who previously needed hours of land and sea travel can now enjoy a short flight with breathtaking views from the air. In addition to time efficiency, the presence of this seaplane also enriches the travel experience with the sensation of landing on charming blue water.

For Banyuwangi, this initiative is a great opportunity to strengthen its tourism sector. With its natural wealth, complete facilities, and various annual tourism agendas, this flight is believed to expand the tourist market, especially from Bali, which is already internationally renowned. Meanwhile, for Bali, this connection supports the strategy of making it the main gateway for Eastern Indonesian tourism. The seaplane is planned to operate at several strategic points, including calm beaches that can be used as safe landing locations. This step is part of the efforts by the government and airline industry players to enhance tourism connectivity between two regions that have enormous potential in the nature, culture, and ecotourism sectors.

This innovation is also expected to encourage local economic growth by opening new opportunities for the transportation, hospitality, and marine tourism sectors. Tourists can more easily access various destinations such as Alas Purwo National Park, Red Island Beach (Pantai Pulau Merah), and Ijen Crater (Kawah Ijen) in Banyuwangi, as well as explore Nusa Penida and Ubud in Bali without having to go through long land journeys.

With the Bali–Banyuwangi seaplane flights, Indonesia increasingly demonstrates its commitment to developing sustainable and innovative tourism. This step not only strengthens the national tourism appeal but also affirms Indonesia's position as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Southeast Asia.
